Ron and Gerri Walker purchased the company in 1964 from Ron’s parents. Ron and Gerri are responsible for the company joining the Atlas network, and they remained active in the daily operation of the business, along with their daughter Marcia Walker, until May 2015. Their desire for honest, reliable, outstanding quality service, along with their long-standing dedicated team of employees, made Walker Transfer a well-known moving company in the relocation industry.

In May 2015, Walker Transfer was purchased by Karen Wing and Chris Wing of Powell Relocation Group and became Walker Transfer-Powell, LLC. Marcia Walker continues to have an active role in daily operations and is an integral part of the management team. The long tradition of the company’s women-ownership continued. Shortly after purchase, the company was certified by the WBENC, the largest certifier of women-owned businesses in the United States.
About Karen Wing
Karen Wing holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, graduating cum laude in 1995. Before joining Walker Transfer-Powell, LLC in 2015, Wing worked part time at Powell Relocation Group. She also spent nearly three decades at Amway Corporation in Ada, Michigan with increasing responsibilities in each position.
Most recently at Amway Corporation, she was Executive Assistant, Corporate Development & Business Innovation. Before that, she served as Executive Secretary, Public Relations and Executive Secretary, International Legal. Among her career accomplishments at Amway, Wing helped manage department budgets, invoice processing, and vendor agreements. She contributed to website development projects, and assisted at public relations conferences, both domestically and internationally.

Moving goes way back in both companies, and both families. Much like Walker Transfer, Powell Relocation Group started small in 1962 when Bill Powell converted his 7UP® delivery truck into Bill’s Delivery Service. His step sons, Chris and Greg Wing, both joined the company in 1985 and learned the business from the ground up. Bill always said “treat your customers and employees fairly and your business will grow and be successful.” When Bill passed away in 2008, his wife Lorna became Chairman of the Board up until her death in 2017. Greg Wing was the CEO from 2010 until he retired in January of 2019. Chris, Vice President since 2010, is now the CEO and sole owner of Powell Relocation Group.
